Pre/Post Natal Care
A woman's health is essential to the health and development of her baby - before and after delivery!
During pregnancy, there are several physiological and endocrinological changes that occur in preparation for creating the environment for the developing baby.
The following changes can result in a misaligned spine or joints:
- Protruding abdomen and increased back curve
- Pelvic changes
- Postural adaptations
When the pelvis is misaligned it may reduce the amount of room available for the developing baby so it’s very important that you make sure your pelvis is adjusted regularly if you want the easiest type of birth. This restriction is called intrauterine constraint. A misaligned pelvis may also make it difficult for the baby to get into the best possible position for delivery, so that’s why we suggest you make sure that the expectant mother be adjusted right up until she’s scheduled to go to the hospital or home birthing process.
After delivery, the body is still undergoing major changes. Proper nutrition and spinal health are just as important during the stage.
Here are a few things every expecting mother should know about chiropractic treatment:
1. NO Contraindications Have Been Identified
According to americanpregnancy.org and many other reputable sources, there are no known contraindications to receiving chiropractic treatment while pregnant. The expectant mother goes through many changes and shifts within the body. It is just as important, if not more so, to ensure balance and good health during this time.
2. Chiropractors ARE Trained to Work with Pregnant Women
Chiropractic treatment is something that can only legally be administered by qualified practitioners who have earned the doctor of chiropractic qualification. People often don’t realize how extensive this training is. Most chiropractors have a total of 7-8 years of post-secondary education. Many of them complete undergraduate work in biology and proceed to the doctor of chiropractic program, which takes an additional 3-4 years to complete, in addition to residency requirements.
